UPHOLSTERY CLEANING

Upholstery Cleaning is also a 3 step process

1. PREPARING THE FABRIC

The first thing the technician does is inspect the upholstery to determine whether it is safe to be cleaned. The material is tested (in an inconspicuous place) for colour change, bleed and shrinkage. There is a lack of quality standards in the upholstery fabrics used in household furniture and whilst there are many manufacturers who test fabrics for wear strength, dye fastness and shrink resistance, there are equally as many who don’t. Even when quality fabric is used, many manufacturers place non-fast back materials (unbleached calico, black buckram etc.) under the fabric that can bleed through when cleaned.

Once the fabric has been tested and it has been determined that it can be safely cleaned, it is vacuumed to remove surface dirt, hair, crumbs etc.

2. THE TREATMENT

Once the fabric has been vacuumed it is sprayed withFIBRE SOFT Pre-spray, a unique water soluble polymer which holds dirt & grime in suspension and prevents it being re-deposited until the rinse cycle is complete. Polymers also assist in the prevention of colour bleeding. The active ingredients virtually dissolve the bond between fibres and grime. High levels of grease emulsifiers are able to cut greasy deposits that would normally require a harsh solvent and pre-scrubbing.

The fabric is then rinsed using a low pressure extraction machine filled with FIBRESOFT Rinse.  The grime which has been dissolved and held in suspension from the Pre-Spray step is easily removed. The rinse has a mild acidity which lowers the pH, therefore reducing the chance of alkalinity, browning and colour bleeding. It also reduces the static cling created by nylon and wool blends, acrylics and to some extent polypropylene fibres. The combination of these two products permanently bonds a mildly antiseptic softener onto the fibres resulting in a soft and fresh smelling fabric.

3. DRYING THE FURNITURE

The furniture is then towel dried to remove most of the moisture and then dried off using a carpet dryer. The furniture will not be 100% dry for up to 1 to 3 hours (depending on the air temperature and humidity).

THE RESULT

The result of this process is a clean and bright, detergent free, fresh smelling, soft and deodorized fabric that looks great and is dry in approximately 1-3 hours. The system is recommended by many fibre weavers as being the best available.
